Welcome to Lissie's Garden. I must firstly explain that technically the garden is not uniquely mine. It is Jonny and Lissie's garden - Jonny being my husband- (but that sounded too long winded and twee.) Jonny does all the hard work really as I have a bad back: digging, soil lobbing and chicken poo spreading. He also likes to grow pumpkins. Whereas I do the design, seed growing, planting and weeding. We moved into our brand new build in December 2012. We had a steep back garden with poor clay soil which was turfed over.
My dream was to create a cottage style garden with haphazard, yet slightly strctured, planting. We started work on our garden in April 2013. In Summer 2016 I am hoping to enter my garden into Barnsley in Bloom as the cottage garden look will hopefully be complete by then. This blog is to show how we have made our garden and what has and has not worked. We are not experts. I have no horticultural qualifications. My only reference materials have been google, my Dad and nature itself. I mainly grow flowers, perennials, herbs, shrubs and roses. However, Jonny likes his pumpkins and I am quite partial to berries, rhubarb, garlic and leeks as well as anything that reminds me of my childhood such as Honesty and Lemon Balm. We also have two children so our garden has to be family friendly. Our two cats, Babs and Mittens, complete our home and are currently desperate for me to remove the netting protection from the cat nip so that they can tuck in!
